Is physical therapy considered a Preventive Service?

No, Physical therapy is not considered preventive. Preventive Services are prevention focused and not medically necessary to treat an illness or injury. 

Some Preventive Services include:  

  • Past medical, social, and family history 
  • Complete physical exam and review of body systems 
  • Annual GYN visit 
  • Review of medications 
  • Immunizations 
  • Counseling/anticipatory guidance/risk factor reduction interventions, 
  • Age- and gender-appropriate screening tests
